Matchday #3 saw FC Davis travel to take on two time national champions Sonoma County Sol in Santa Rosa, CA.
FC Davis came off a 1-1 tie with East Bay Stompers and were looking to gain more tops to thrust the team to towards the top of the table.
The game started off plan, as Sonoma opened the scoring early. Three minutes into the match the Sol found the back of the net off a defensive error that saw a break away put the hosts up early.
The goal seemed to wake up the Golden Lions as pressure quickly mounted on the Sonoma goal. Despite some quality chances from the FC Davis wingers, the ball stayed out of the Sonoma net.
A breakthrough seemed imminent and 65 minutes into the game Miguel Acevedo found Kyle Higgins who roofed a shot past the Sol goal keeper to put FC Davis on the board.
Tied at 1-1, the stage was set for FC Davis to push on for the winner.
Despite frequent chances on net, the Golden Lions were unable to find a goal to pull ahead.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw, denying the boys from Davis the points they felt were coming their way.
FC Davis next match is at home, Saturday, April 14th at 7:00pm. The Golden Lions play Napa Valley 1839 who currently sit in 1st place.
