It was all Davis on Saturday night as the Golden Lions swept aside Napa Valley 1839 in a battle for first place in the Golden Gate Conference.
Davis and Napa came into the match looking for a win to separate themselves in the table from the rest of the NorCal clubs.
With both sides having a game in hand, securing points was crucial for playoff positioning.
The Lions came into the match without Lucas Mohageg and leading scorer Evan Barrett, each out with hamstring injuries.
With one of the best offensive weapons in the conference sidelined, the Lions knew they had to find a way to replace Barretts production.
From the opening whistle, the Lions found production, and a lot of it.
In a game that seemed like deja vu, the away side could not contain the high powered offensive of the home side.
A total team effort saw FC Davis score five goals from four different players throughout the match.
In the first half, Chongo, Acevedo and Bagheri found the back of the net.
In the second half, Alvarez found the net and Chongo added a second.
While Napa was able to keep in close at times, snagging goals to bring the score within one on two separate occasions (2-1, 3-2), everytime the home side had the ball they looked threatening.
The game never seemed out of reach for FCD, as they controlled long stretches of the match.
It was a statement game for Davis, who now hold a three point lead over rivals Sacramento Gold for first place.
With five games remaining in the regular season, a showdown with Sacramento on June 22nd in Davis is shaping up to be decisive match up.
The Lions are on the road this weekend at Academica SC in Turlock before their next home fixture on June 1st against San Ramon FC.
