US Open Cup First Round Clash Set - Davis Hits Road For San Francisco

It's official!

The 2020 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup first round pairings were released Wednesday morning and the Lions have their first opponent in sight.

FC Davis will hit the road to San Francisco for a first round match-up with historic San Francisco side Olympic Club.

The match will take place at Negoesco Stadium, home of the University of San Francisco.

Kick-off will take place at 7:30pm and will be streamed live on ESPN +.

Olympic Club is rich in history both with titles and big name players. Fielding their first adult team over a century ago, the organization has been involved in every major tournament the country has to offer since 1916.

Olympic Club qualified for the US Open Cup by traveling to Aurora, Colorado and knocking off Aztec FC 3-1. With former pros such as Matt Fondy, Bryan Burke and Javier Ayala-Hil, a difficult tasks awaits for the Lions.

"We are ready," said FC Davis forward and hometown favorite Cyrus Ghaffari. "We are honored to take part in the competition and will give everything we have to represent Davis on the national stage."

The winner of FC Davis and Olympic Club will face Sacramento Republic, Reno 1868 or Oakland Roots.

Second round pairings will be made available January 29th. Due to the US Open Cup committee matching up teams geographically, the likely opponent for FC Davis would be Sacramento Republic.

More information, including tickets and pre-match activities will be made available in early March.
