Lionesses Route Marin FC

FC Davis brushed aside Marin FC with a comfortable 3-0 victory Wednesday night at Playfields.

The home side controlled the game straight from the opening whistle, with Marin struggling to get out of their own half. Davis midfielder Jackie Koerwitz surely must have thought she had opened the scoring in the 16th minute when she thumped the crossbar from distance. Jackie Koerwitz really did open the scoring mere minutes later when (from an almost identical spot as her first attempt) her strike sailed over the keeper’s outstretched hands.

Despite their near-complete supremacy, the Lionesses went into the break with only a one-goal lead. FC Davis didn’t wait long to resume the scoring in the second period as Julia Curtis doubled the home side’s advantage just six minutes in.

Davis continued to cruise as the half wore on, scoring their third in the 71st minute courtesy of a stellar finish from Leslie Fregoso just inside the box, working just enough room to get a shot off. From there the Lionesses saw out the rest of the game, holding Marin to one attacking opportunity across the 90 minutes.

With the victory, Davis climbed into fourth in the division, only two points behind second-place Marin.
