After going through a variety of different scenarios, in an effort to keep fans, players, and communities safe the WPSL will not take the field as a national league in the summer of 2020.
Yesterday, the WPSL Board of Directors announced the 2020 WPSL regular season will be cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As an organization, FC Davis stands 100% behind the decision of the WPSL. While we all want to be back out on the pitch, under the current circumstances it makes no sense to play matches.
With shelter-in-place orders varying throughout the country, an early cancellation to the season allows for teams in the WPSL to work with direction from their state and local authorities to hold team training and friendly matches.
As the situation improves in California, sports will be an important part of the healing process for our community. FC Davis will use our platform to do our part to bring a sense of normalcy back to our local area. We have events planned all year long and will continue to provide an outlet for our youth and adult fans as government agencies permit.
Currently FC Davis is in early planning stages to host a summer event along our Causeway rival in Sacramento. Should the situation improve, we will bring the beautiful game back to the fields in Davis.
Until our summer picture becomes clear, we will continue to announce our roster and keep the community updated on scheduled activities as information is released from our local authorities.
